Halloween Window Subway Art

We've all seen some great subway art this year, kind of a trend right?  Well I decided to put a new spin on it.  Originally I was going to do it with the frost spray paint again (like the Modern Piggy Bank) but decided if I'm doing Halloween I need something a bit spookier.  So I went for silver spray paint and this is what I came up with.
This proved to be pretty difficult to photograph and the sun was going down so that didn't help, but it turned out super cute with just the right amount of spook.

What you need-
Thrifted Frame
Black and Silver spray paints
1.5 inch ribbon
Staple Gun
Clear shelf liner
Exacto knife

Spray your thrifted frame black (if it isn't already).  Mine was an aweful 80's wood.  Cut your words out of clear shelf liner and place on your glass as a mask.  Here is the template I came up with and what it looked like before I painted it.
Take your glass outside and spray with a couple coats of silver spray paint.  Mine said it dried in 15 minutes, handle after an hour.  So I waited about 30 minutes, what can I say, I'm impatient.  Pee; your letter masks off.  Some of the paint will come off with the mask, I think it adds to the spooky effect, but be careful not to remove to much when doing this, you can pat some back down, kind of like silver leaf, if you get to much off.  I scratched a little extra off here and there around the outsides to add to the effect.

Cut a sheet of shelving liner larger than your glass, lay flat sticky side up and press your glass, paint side down, onto the sticky liner.  So you've now laminated the painted side.  Carefully trim the extra liner.  I did this because the paint will scratch right off the glass if it's not protected.  That said if you mess up to bad on the last step you can use the liner to clean the paint off your glass easily and start over.
Once trimmed return to the frame, add some ribbon (I was able to staple my ribbon on as my frame is wood) and hang in a window!
You could also put this on a shelf in front of a fun colored light or a flickering candle.  Or using black spray paint on a mirror! Enjoy!

  12. This is a great article and I love all the Halloween decorations, they would be great for a party or haunted house. My family and I love hosting Halloween parties and everyone has to dress up. We also have a lot of fun activities that both parents and kids can participate in. My family also like to go visit haunted houses and haunted hayrides during Halloween season. We always enjoy Haunted Hayrides in NJ because they are scary unique.
